Taxpayer-funded think tank backs votes for 16s

Why are we being charged for this blatantly left-wing outfit?

“Giving 16-year-olds the vote is a big step toward rebuilding trust and bringing more people into the process”, posted the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) today.

Its Executive Director, Harry Quilter-Pinner, was on GB News arguing in favour of lowering the voting age. You can watch the full clip below or by clicking this link:

Taxpayers will be delighted to know they were charged £285,500 (2020-24) for the IPPR, which describes itself as “the UK’s leading progressive think tank”:

In general it’s quite shocking to see how many left-wing think tanks taxpayers are charged for.

Many taxpayers don’t want votes at 16. We should not be charged for a think tank lobbying for this change.


You can see a full list of IPPR’s funders here. 2024 sources of income include:

  • £450,001 – £500,000* from the Open Society Foundations

  • £75,001 – £100,000 from Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors

  • £100,001 – £125,000 from Unbound Philanthropy, which also funds City of Sanctuary UK and Hope Not Hate Charitable Trust.

*denotes multi-year funding
